Instagram Repost Guide: Posts, Stories, and Reels
Sharing content you love is a great way to support creators and engage your followers. Here is how you can perform reposts on Instagram
Reposting Feed Posts
To repost a feed post to your profile:
Open the post you wish to share.
Tap the "Repost" icon located on the right side of the post (usually the third icon).
The content will be shared automatically to your profile with the original creator credited. You can add your own comments or thoughts before posting.
Reposting Stories
The ability to repost a story typically depends on whether you have been tagged.
-
When Tagged: If you are tagged in a story, you will receive a Direct Message notification. Open the conversation and tap "Add to Your Story" to share it. You can add stickers and text to personalize it.
-
When Not Tagged: Instagram does not offer a direct repost button for untagged stories. You can take a screenshot or screen recording and post it as a new story. Always respect the creator's privacy and copyright terms when using third-party tools.
Reposting Reels
You can share Reels to both your feed and your stories
-
Sharing to Feed: Simply tap the "Repost" icon on the right side of the Reels video to share it directly to your profile.
-
Sharing to Stories: Tap the share icon on the Reel and select "Add to Your Story." Note that if the creator has disabled sharing, this option will not appear. Instagram provides a 15-second preview in stories; users can tap "Watch Full Reel" to see the original video.
